Notes from a long hot summer
The swifts have gone and summer lingers on. Just a short while ago they filled the sky with their unmistakable screech, cutting through the warm evening air in effortless turns. The swallows are still with us skimming the top of Chagford Pool, tree tops and open fields, and with a bit of luck they'll stay a little longer. But it changes when the swifts leave. Nothing marks the true beginning of summer like the first call overhead. This week we had the first rain after weeks
